ALBANY, N.Y. – April 9, 2012 – CDPHP® is encouraging employees to “Get Your Walk On,” installing two walking work stations throughout the building that allow employees to burn calories while getting their work done! The treadmills are equipped with a computer that allows employees to answer emails, write reports, and complete day-to-day tasks.
“We recognize that sitting at your desk day after day, hour after hour, can be downright tiring,” said Elizabeth Fassett, MS, director of health promotion and wellness programs at CDPHP. “This is a great opportunity for employees to stretch their legs, burn some calories, and get their work done!”
The walking work stations allow employees to integrate fitness into their daily work schedules. Employees simply reserve a 30-minute time slot on one-of-two walking work stations setup throughout the building.
In addition to the walking work stations, CDPHP encourages employees to take part in dozens of other on-site fitness activities. The employee fitness center hosts a wide array of fitness classes – spinning, yoga, kickboxing, Zumba®, pilates, and more – which are offered daily.
According to a study from the Harvard University School of Public Health, workplace wellness initiatives improve health and lower costs. The study found that medical costs fall by about $3.27 for every dollar spent on wellness programs and absenteeism costs fall by about $2.73 for every dollar spent.
