ALBANY, N.Y. – July 10, 2012 – CDPHP® is pleased to announce new no-cost health benefits which will soon be available to women. Beginning on August 1, 2012, CDPHP will offer additional preventive services for women, including contraception, breastfeeding equipment, as well as domestic violence screenings and counseling, at no cost share to our members.
CDPHP believes the Affordable Care Act helps make prevention affordable and accessible to more Americans by eliminating the cost sharing for preventive health services. The law also requires insurance companies cover additional preventative health benefits for women. While CDPHP already covered many of these mandated benefits, we’re adding additional benefits at no cost to our members.
Below is a list of preventive health services for women, covered at no cost to CDPHP members:
“Studies have shown that women delay or avoid critical screenings when costs are involved,” said Dr. John D. Bennett, president and CEO of CDPHP. “We believe providing these services at no cost to our members is a big step toward improving access to important health service for women,” added Bennett who noted that chronic diseases, which are responsible for 7 in 10 deaths in the United States and account for 75 percent of health care costs, are often preventable.
