Out-of-Area Coverage

Your Traveling Companion

Wherever you travel, whether for school, work, or vacation, as a member of CDPHP, you're covered for urgent and emergency care worldwide. For details, download the CDPHP Travel Out-of-Area brochure.

Even if you have children attending college out of the area, they are covered, as long as your plan has a rider that extends coverage to college-age dependents. CDPHP will cover them for emergencies and prior-authorized urgent and follow-up care. For details, download the CDPHP Student Out-of-Area brochure.

Out-of-Area Coverage Includes:

  • Emergency care: If an emergency* occurs, such as a serious accident, compound fracture or difficulty breathing, dial 911 or the local emergency number, or go the nearest emergency facility. We recommend that the primary care physician (PCP) be alerted as soon as possible.
  • Urgent care: If the situation is urgent but not an emergency, such as a sore throat, sprain, or infection, contact the CDPHP Resource Coordination Department at 1-800-274-2332 before seeking care, no matter what hour of the day or night. Our professionals will assess your situation and assist you in getting the care you need.
  • Routine care: For routine care, such as check-ups, immunizations, or physicals, visit your usual doctor at home. This type of care may not be covered out of the area. Check your benefit materials for details.
  • For further details on Out-of-Area coverage, please contact your employer's health benefit administrator, CDPHP Member Services Department, or consult your member handbook.

* A sudden illness or injury so severe that the average person would believe that immediate medical attention is needed to avoid serious health impairment or bodily harm.
