PINs for Funding Account Debit Cards

Since a PIN is not required, you can choose to do nothing.

Members who are funding account debit cardholders have the option but are not required to retrieve a unique personal identification number (PIN) associated with their current debit cards.

Q. Do I need a PIN?
A. No, new government regulations have changed the requirements for card transaction processing. You have a choice of whether you want to obtain a PIN or not.

Q. When is the PIN used?
A. When you use your benefit card as a debit card (using the debit card button) at the point-of-sale terminal, you may be prompted to enter your PIN, instead of signing the receipt as you may have done in the past.

Q. What if I forget my PIN, or do not want to use a PIN?
A. You can request that the merchant run the transaction on the signature network (use the credit button). You would then sign the receipt, as you may have done in the past with your benefit card. Additionally, you may view your PIN online, or request it be mailed by calling the CDPHP member services department at the telephone number listed on your ID card.

Q. Are there other delivery options to get my PIN?
A. PINs can be delivered through PIN mailers. To request a mailer, contact the CDPHP member services department at the telephone number listed on your ID card.

Q. Is the PIN shared by all cardholders on an account?
A. No, each benefit card will have its own specific PIN.

Q. Can a PIN be customized?
A. No, a PIN cannot be customized. The PIN is specific to the given card.

Q. What if my card is lost or stolen?
A. If your card is lost or stolen, a replacement card will be issued. Simply contact the CDPHP member services department at the telephone number listed on your ID card. The replacement card will have a new number and a new PIN. Once you receive the new card, you can retrieve the PIN electronically by following the instructions.

Q. Is the PIN required for online purchases?
A. No, you will not need your PIN to complete online purchases of eligible items.

Q. Will my plan change by adding the PIN?
A. No, your plan(s) does not change as a result of retrieving a PIN.

Q. Will I be able to get cash back or use an ATM with my PIN?
A. No, you will not be able to get cash back.
