A New Way to Shop for Insurance
A health insurance exchange, also known as a marketplace, is an organized resource designed to help people purchase and enroll in health insurance coverage. In New York, there are two separate marketplaces: the Individual Marketplace, which is open to individuals and their families, and the Small Business Marketplace, open to small groups with one to 100 employees. Both marketplaces help consumers compare commercial insurance options, calculate costs, and select coverage online, in person, over the phone, or by mail.
Enrollment in the NY State of Health marketplace began November 1, 2015 for 2016. The open enrollment period for 2016 individual plans runs through January 31, 2016.
