How to buy individual health insurance plans offered by CDPHP:
NY State of Health makes it easy to compare all your options and apply for financial assistance to reduce your premium cost.
What are the deadlines for signing up?
The open enrollment period for 2016 individual health insurance plans is November 1, 2015 – January 31, 2016.
If you enroll between the first and 15th of a month, your insurance can begin on the first of the next month (for example, sign up on March 10, coverage begins April 1).
If you enroll between the 16th and the end of the month, your plan will begin on the first of the second following month (for example, sign up on March 17, coverage begins May 1).
Important Notice: To buy individual health insurance after or outside open enrollment, you must be eligible for a special enrollment period due to a qualifying life event, such as moving to a new state, certain changes in income, and changes in your family size (e.g., marriage, divorce, and birth or adoption of a child).
New for 2016: The New York State of Health™ (NYSOH) Essential Plan
NYSOH will offer a new plan option for 2016, the Essential Plan, for people with lower incomes, but who do not qualify for Medicaid or Child Health Plus. If you are eligible for this plan, you will receive notice from NYSOH, informing you that you are no longer eligible for the CDPHP plan that you were previously on, and providing you with information about the new Essential Plan. CDPHP will not be offering the Essential Plan in 2016, so eligible CDPHP members must select a new Essential Plan offered by another health plan in order to remain insured, as they will no longer qualify for their previous CDPHP plan.
