ALBANY, N.Y. – July 3, 2014 – Three outstanding physicians were recently inducted into the CDPHP® Physicians’ Academy™ in recognition of their commitment to improving health care in our community. The honorees include: Dr. Augustin “Gus” DeLago, Dr. John A. Nolan, and Dr. Jennifer M. Pearce.
“This year’s inductees are true innovators in their fields. They are well-respected mentors and teachers who have made tremendous contributions to medicine in the Capital Region,” said John D. Bennett, MD, president and CEO, CDPHP. “As CDPHP celebrates its 30th year as a physician-guided health plan, it is our pleasure to recognize and celebrate the work being done by local physicians who strive to provide the best care in our communities.”
Created in 2004, the CDPHP Physicians’ Academy recognizes extraordinary network physicians who are nominated by their peers and selected by an esteemed panel of CDPHP Board and Physicians’ Academy members. The honorees are selected for their delivery of high-quality care, development and observance of best practices, and their willingness to mentor colleagues and staff.
Since the Academy’s inception, and under the leadership of its dean, Anthony Tartaglia, MD, CDPHP has inducted more than three dozen physicians from a variety of specialties.

Augustin “Gus” DeLago, MD, FACC, FSCAI
President, Capital Cardiology Associates and Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and Interventional Cardiology, Albany Medical Center
Dr. DeLago is the founder and director of the Cardiac CT Imaging Suite at Corporate Woods. He inaugurated, and is the director of, the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) Program at Albany Medical Center, which was the first TAVR commercial program in the entire Northeast. He is currently training other area hospital physicians to do the TAVR and valvuloplasty procedures.
Jennifer M. Pearce, MD
Associate Professor of pediatric hematology/oncology at Albany Medical College and Co-director of pediatric oncology in the Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at the Bernard & Millie Duker Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center
Dr. Pearce specializes in diagnosing and treating infants, children, and adolescents with a wide range of childhood cancers and blood disorders such as leukemia, lymphoma, brain tumors, anemias, sickle cell disease, hemophilia, Von Willebrand’s disease, white blood cell disorders, and platelet problems. She is also a consultant at the New York State Newborn Screening Program in Albany.
John A. Nolan, MD, FACC
President, Cardiology Associates of Schenectady, PC, FACC
Dr. Nolan is one of the founding members of Cardiology Associates of Schenectady and has served as the group’s president since its inception. He is currently chief of cardiology and the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Ellis Hospital, where he previously served as medical director of the hospital’s Cardiac Catheterization Lab. Dr. Nolan was instrumental in developing the Cardiac Surgery Program at Ellis and in creating a high-quality health care delivery system admired by his peers and the public at large.
