ALBANY, N.Y. (December 13, 2019) – Another record-breaking year for the 24-Hour CDPHP Treadmill Challenge which today raised nearly $6,000 to combat the opioid crisis.

The event serves as an important fundraiser for CDPHP The Foundation, which is partnering with The Addictions Care Center of Albany (ACCA) to expand school-based alcohol and substance use prevention programs in Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer, Warren, and Washington Counties.

Now in its fourth year, the Treadmill Challenge includes more than 90 runners who collectively burned more than 2,700 calories and ran 225 miles, or the distance from Albany to Rochester.

The CDPHP team was joined by celebrity guest runners, Benita Zahn and Jim Kambrich from WNYT NewsChannel 13, Jack Lamson of CBS 6 News, and local running all-stars, Karen Bertasso Hughes and Ryan Udvadia, winners of the 2019 CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge.

Funds raised from the have allow ACCA to expand alcohol and substance use prevention programming in the Averill Park and Hoosick Valley School Districts.

ACCA’s award-winning An Apple a Day school-based program uses age-appropriate learning techniques to build self-esteem and develop healthy habits in children. The program begins in Kindergarten and is delivered each year for eight weeks, through the fourth grade, so to reach children on a regular basis before risky behavior begins.
