ALBANY, N.Y. – February 15, 2024 – CDPHP and the Hudson-Mohawk Road Runners Club (HMRRC) are excited to announce that registration is now open for the CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge, a 3.5-mile road race starting and ending on Madison Avenue in downtown Albany near the Empire State Plaza. This year’s race is set for Thursday, May 16, 2024, at 6:25 p.m. The registration fee is $30 for in-person or virtual participants.

Local not-for-profits Wizard’s Wardrobe and Reeling for Recovery will receive important funds from this year’s race. Wizard’s Wardrobe is a free after school one-on-one literacy tutoring program for elementary school children in the South End. Last year, only 16 percent of South End third graders tested "proficient" in English Language Arts. Each student is assigned one or two dedicated tutors who work with them on strengthening reading, writing, and problem-solving skills with a wide variety of high-quality instructional materials. Virtually all students (96 percent) leave the program reading at a higher level.

Reeling for Recovery is a grassroots not-for-profit organization that helps disadvantaged youth struggling with behavioral, social, and addiction issues. The organization uses adventure-based learning and fishing experiences to provide direct services to at-risk youth through student assistance counseling and summer camp programs. Through the programming, Reeling for Recovery educates students on the importance of making good decisions, setting and achieving goals and reinforcing the importance of academics.

NEW for 2024! The CDPHP WTC Training Program

CDPHP is excited to partner with ARE Event Productions (AREEP) on the CDPHP WTC Training Program geared toward those who are either new to running or consider themselves beginners. The 10-week program includes run coaching as well as strength and mobility training. It’s entirely free with registration and is conveniently available during the sign-up process. The program begins on Monday, March 11 and meets in Albany on Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. with additional on your own sessions scheduled for the end of each week. In conjunction with AREEP staff, Emily Taft (Golden Runs Coaching) is providing the running plan and Dylan Brickner (strength coach of Empire Elite Track Club and Siena College) is organizing the strength/mobility component. The CDPHP WTC Training Program will be capped at the first 40 participants to register.

The CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge is organized by and serves as a significant fundraiser for the HMRRC. In addition to raising funds for local charities, the race also helps to fund HMRRCs college scholarships, grants, and free race programs for local youth.

Registration at the $30 entry fee will end on May 1. If the race hasn’t reached its registration cap, registration may be extended at a higher rate.
