An update on our contract discussions with St. Peter’s Health Partners (Trinity Health)

Last updated: January 9, 2026

St. Peter’s Health Partners (SPHP) has informed CDPHP that they may leave our provider network if we do not reach a new agreement.

Contract negotiations with SPHP are still underway and ongoing.

What This Means for You

Under New York State law, all CDPHP members can continue care with SPHP facilities and doctors until March 1, 2026. You can and should continue to schedule appointments, procedures, and treatments with SPHP as you normally do.

For details about continuing care, please review our FAQs below.

Our Priority: Keeping SPHP in Our Network

Your relationship with your doctors and hospitals matters deeply to us. We understand that uncertainty can be stressful, and we want to reassure you that we are actively negotiating with SPHP to maintain access to care within our strong nationwide network of more than one million providers.

Why Negotiations Matter

We know this kind of news can feel unsettling. While most insurer–provider negotiations happen quietly behind the scenes, some become public. You may see or hear messages about these discussions locally and nationally, as hospitals and doctors increasingly use public communication during negotiations.

As a locally based, not-for-profit health plan, we have a responsibility to protect your premium dollars. SPHP is requesting significant payment increases that we believe are unreasonable. Agreeing to these terms could lead to higher health care costs for you, and we are committed to preventing that while preserving access to quality care.

What Happens Next

For now, you do not need to take any action. Your coverage remains in place, and negotiations are ongoing. Our goal is to reach a fair, sustainable agreement, and we will keep you informed as soon as there are updates.

If you have questions about your benefits or coverage, please log in to your online account or contact CDPHP Member Services at the number on your member ID card.

Thank you for trusting us with your care. We value your membership and remain committed to supporting your health every step of the way.

Why has a contract agreement not been reached?

The SPHP parent company – Trinity Health of Livonia, Michigan – has historically and continues to demand unreasonable rate increases from CDPHP. CDPHP and our members, which include many small and large business owners in the Capital Region, are not in a position to absorb these cost increases. That’s why we’re holding the line on a fair and equitable contract.

Which CDPHP health plans are affected by the expired agreement?

CDPHP commercial (including employer-sponsored and ACA marketplace), Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, Child Health Plus, and Essential Plan health plans.

Although an agreement was not reached by the deadline, is CDPHP still working to resolve this?

Yes, CDPHP is continuing to work directly with St. Peter’s Health Partners to reach a new agreement.

Will my upcoming appointment or procedure be covered?

Right now, you can continue to schedule appointments, procedures, and treatments with St. Peter’s Health Partners as you normally do until March 1, 2026.

When could my benefits be impacted?

While our existing agreement expired on December 31, 2025, New York State mandates that impacted patients continue to have in-network access to St. Peter’s Health Partners until March 1, 2026.

What if I have a procedure scheduled with a doctor or hospital after the provider leaves the network?

We understand that some patients may have appointments scheduled on or after January 1, 2026. If this is the case, you should call CDPHP Member Services using the phone number on the back of your member ID card, to determine whether your procedure will be covered through Continuity of Care provisions.

What should I do if I am pregnant or undergoing active treatment for cancer or a chronic condition from an out-of-network provider?

Members who are pregnant can keep seeing their SPHP provider until their baby is born, and postpartum care is complete.

Some patients, including those undergoing active treatment for cancer or a chronic condition, may qualify for extended in-network access through the CDPHP Continuity of Care program. That means you can continue to receive care from the out-of-network provider at the in-network rate for a certain period of time.

Please call CDPHP Member Services at the phone number on the back of your member card to see if you qualify, and to get instructions on how to continue to receive care based on your health plan.

If you have insurance through your employer, contact your HR or benefits manager about your coverage details.

Will I still be able to enroll in a new plan if an agreement is not reached?

CDPHP and St. Peter’s Health Partners are continuing to negotiate a new agreement. There is no reason to switch plans at this time.

Medicare Advantage members have from January 1 until March 31 to change plans during the Medicare Open Enrollment Period.

Commercial and Group Medicare members should reach out to your health benefits administrator to learn what other plans you may be eligible for.
