How to Buy Individual Health Insurance Plans Offered by CDPHP

2. Know the deadlines for signing up.

   • The open enrollment period for individual health insurance plans is November 1 – January 31.

   • If you enroll between the first and 15^thof a month, your insurance can begin on the first of the next month (for example, sign up on March 10, coverage begins April 1).

   • If you enroll between the 16^thand the end of the month, your plan will begin on the first of the second following month (for example, sign up on March 17, coverage begins May 1).

Important Notice: To buy individual health insurance after or outside of open enrollment, you must be eligible for a special enrollment period due to a qualifying event, such as moving to a new state, certain changes in income, and changes in your family size (marriage, divorce, and birth or adoption of a child).

The New York State of Health Essential Plan

CDPHP is offering the Essential Plan. The Essential Plan provides quality health insurance to individuals who do not qualify for Medicaid. There are four different types of the Essential Plan, and costs for each plan are dependent on family size and income.
